Tips for Donating Items
Do not leave donations outside any Harbor House location. This helps to avoid pilfering and clutter.
Call ahead when donating to Watseka at 815-432-3525 to verify space availability before leaving home (or before loading items).
Pack your donations in small boxes or 13-gallon trash bags. This ensures they are not too heavy to lift. We cannot accept large black garbage bags for safety reasons.
Donate only new or gently used items. Please ensure items are in good condition. Ask yourself, “Would I give this to a friend in the condition it's in?” If not, please don’t donate it.
Avoid donating certain items that are not acceptable for safety or usability reasons. These include:
- Broken, torn, or stained items
- Items rescued from a curb, fire, or flood
- Items treated for bed bugs
- Electronics (e.g., televisions, computers, gaming systems)
- Used mattresses
- Encyclopedias, textbooks, or magazines
- Car seats, cribs that do not meet regulations, used stuffed toys, pillows, or garage sale items with price tags
- Hide-a-bed couches or couches with recliners
When you donate to Harbor House or the Resale Shoppe, you will receive a receipt for your charitable donation.
Your Impact
Every donated item helps fund our programs, from emergency shelter to counseling and advocacy. Your generosity creates real change in the lives of survivors.
